Our Vision
For 45 years, the Michigan Blind Athletic Association (MBAA) has championed adaptive sports for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. We've supported some of the world’s top athletes, but more importantly, we’ve fostered a culture of inclusion in schools, communities, and beyond.
Too often, blind and visually impaired students are sidelined—keeping score instead of playing, cheering instead of competing. Research shows that exclusion from sports affects self-worth, happiness, health, and success well into adulthood. MBAA is changing that.
We break down barriers by educating athletes, training coaches, sponsoring competitions & athletes, and raising awareness. We teach adaptive techniques, promote accessibility, and fight for equal opportunities in schools, colleges, and competitions.
Established as a 501(c)(3) in 1980, MBAA is dedicated to ensuring that every athlete with blindness or low vision in Michigan has the chance to participate, train, and compete—because the thrill of scoring and the resilience built in sports belong to everyone.
We provide a calendar of upcoming events. Please let us know if you would like to attend an event or know of an event to be added.
Our board is made up of concerned professionals and athletes who know the importance of training and competing for everyone.
